“Culture Tailored to Young People – Shaping Our City through Public Policies”
During June and July 2026, the Center for Democracy Foundation organised a youth training programme in Subotica and online entitled “Culture Tailored to Young People – Shaping Our City through Public Policies”, as part of the Your City – Your Voice project.
The training brought together young people from Subotica and the surrounding area who are interested in actively contributing to the improvement of cultural life in their community through public policy-making processes.
Through interactive sessions, discussions and group work, participants gained basic knowledge about public policies, local decision-making processes and opportunities for young people to engage in local community planning and development. The training placed a particular focus on understanding cultural policies, identifying the needs of young people in the field of culture, and developing proposals to improve cultural programmes and opportunities for young people.
Encouraged to recognise their own role in driving change within their local community, participants mapped the key challenges young people face regarding access to cultural content, spaces for creativity and opportunities to participate in the cultural life of the city. They also became familiar with the Youth Policy Lab methodology and worked on formulating the first recommendations for improving public policies in the field of culture.
The training represents the first step in the Youth Policy Lab process in Subotica. In the coming period, participants will continue working on developing concrete recommendations for improving cultural policies aimed at young people, which will be presented to local decision-makers as part of the project’s advocacy activities.
The project “Your City – Your Voice” is implemented within the project “EU National Resource Centre for civil society in Serbia” of the Belgrade Open School, financially supported by the European Union.
