17 CIVIL SOCIETY ORGANIZATIONS STRENGTHENED TO ASSIST FASTER JOINING OF SERBIA TO EUROPEAN UNION
The conference that Institute for Sustainable Communities organized November 18, 2014 in Mixer House, and that officially marked the end of two-year program “Civil Society for the Future”, was an opportunity to present the results of 17 partner organizations, define how much the civil sector advanced and which challenges are still facing it.
Head of the USAID Mission in Serbia Azza El-Abd stated that: “Strong and active civil society is equally important for European Serbia as the bridges, roads, judicial system reform, market development or private sector”.
During the past two years program “Civil Society for the Future” supported the efforts of participating organizations to strengthen themselves for efficient advocating before state bodies in the areas that are vital for EU standards fulfillment and further development of democratic society in Serbia.
Guests were also addressed by Richard Pasner – President of the Management Board of the Institute for Sustainable Communities, Marina Savić – member of the Management Board of the Business Leaders’ Forum of Serbia, as well as Biljana Dakić Đorđević – Executive Director of the Trag Foundation.
Project “Civil Society for the Future” promoted the advocacy initiatives at local level by strengthening local organizations to successfully identify and advocate for the needs and interests of citizens. Project will continue to support the sustainability of civil sector in the following period through set of activities in the field of philanthropy for which are civil society organizations from Serbia empowered.
Main message, agreed by all speakers, is that these 17 organizations are today ready to be an equal participant in the process of intensifying European perspective of Serbia, assist to faster development of all segments of the society based upon European values and share their knowledge with both citizens and all relevant stakeholders.
At this occasion, Center for Democracy Foundation was awarded for successful realization of the project “More Efficient Civic Role in Monitoring and Protection of Labor Rights”, which is a part of continuous efforts to recognize civil society organizations as an actor in the field of labor and employment.
