CDF Granted Special Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council
Advocating for the Promotion and Protection of Economic and Social Rights of Citizens and Vulnerable Social Groups
The United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) has adopted the recommendation of the Committee on Non-Governmental Organizations to grant the Center for Democracy Foundation (CDF) special consultative status.
The Center for Democracy Foundation has been recognized for its longstanding work and commitment to promoting and protecting economic and social rights.
CDF expresses its satisfaction with the opportunity to contribute its expertise and experience to the realization of the rights of all citizens, especially those from vulnerable social groups, through engagement and active cooperation with the UN Economic and Social Council and its bodies.
The United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) was established by the UN Charter in 1945 as one of the six principal organs of the United Nations.
ECOSOC plays a leading role in identifying emerging challenges, promoting innovation, and achieving balanced integration of the three pillars—economic, social, and environmental—of sustainable development.
ECOSOC serves as a coordinator, convener, and specialized platform for political dialogue, policy-making, and consensus-building in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, as well as other major UN conferences and summits under its mandate.
Rights and Responsibilities
Authorized representatives of CDF will have the opportunity to participate in meetings, events, conferences, and activities of the United Nations, as well as to attend public meetings of ECOSOC and its subsidiary bodies, the Human Rights Council, and, under certain conditions, the General Assembly and other intergovernmental bodies of the United Nations as observers.
The Center for Democracy may submit written statements to the Council on matters within its competence, as well as deliver oral presentations upon the recommendation of the Committee on NGOs. ECOSOC may also recommend that an NGO with specific expertise conduct studies or research or prepare documents for the Council or its commissions.
The special consultative status of CDF with the United Nations Economic and Social Council opens numerous opportunities to strengthen efforts in protecting and promoting economic and social rights through international cooperation, for the benefit of all citizens.
The Center for Democracy Foundation is obliged to submit a quadrennial report on its activities in support of ECOSOC’s work.
