We strengthen media literacy and emotional intelligence, helping young people recognise and resist emotionally charged disinformation
Representatives of the Center for Democracy Foundation (CDF), Milena Mićović Trajković and Nevena Novaković, participated in an international workshop held on 20 October 2026 in Wrocław, Poland, as part of the European project DEEP – “Unveiling Deep Stories and Boosting Emotional Intelligence to Empower Citizens Against Disinformation”.
The event, hosted by the University of Wrocław, presented a preliminary analytical model for exploring so-called deep stories – emotionally powerful narratives that shape people’s beliefs, trust and attitudes and may contribute to the spread of disinformation.
Through discussions and interactive workshops, researchers, experts and civil society representatives examined the findings of research conducted so far and explored how this model could be applied to develop innovative approaches to strengthening media literacy, critical thinking and emotional resilience among young people.
A project consortium meeting was also held to discuss the next phases of the project, including co-creation workshops aimed at developing practical solutions to counter disinformation.
The Center for Democracy Foundation contributes to the project by researching the attitudes and experiences of young people in Serbia and engaging them in the development of new educational tools. Particular emphasis is placed on empowering young people to recognise manipulative content, participate responsibly in public debate and contribute to building a more democratic and resilient society.
The DEEP project is implemented by a consortium of seven partner organizations and one associate partner from six European countries: ASM Research Solutions Strategy DOO, Poland (Project Coordinator); Partners: Center for Democracy Foundation (CDF), Serbia; University of Wroclaw, Poland; Center for the Study of Democracy, Bulgaria; Group of the European Youth for Change (Asociatia GEYC), Romania; Mano Europa Association, Lithuania; and Berghof Foundation Operations gGmbH, Germany. The Associate Partner is the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Bulgaria.
The project is funded by the European Union under the “Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values” Programme (CERV).
