New Theoretical and Methodological Approaches in the Development of Sustainable Regional Development Strategy

This book is a first phase of the project “Regional Partnership for Development” set off by Center for Democracy Foundation from Belgrade and Regional Chamber of Commerce from Užice.

It is a study on two interrelated topics: sustainable regional development and its implementation in one specific region. The study provides basic elements for understanding the context, approach and concept for definition of sustainable development of a relatively encircled regional/territorial entity and considers the conditionality of the proposed approach implementation in the Zlatibor region, which includes Zlatibor District excluding Municipality of Sjenica and including Municipality of Ivanjica (belonging to Moravica District).

Goal of the study is to inform and “tutor” local and regional development actors on the issues important for the development of sustainable regional development, as well as to serve other interested parties. This way, the book actually define heuristic framework for encouraging civic initiative and active participation of all individual, group and institutional stakeholders of Zlatibor region: firstly in the formation of political and expert arena for democratic, qualified and competent dialogue on key problems of sustainable development; secondly in conception, preparation and creation of appropriate developmental documents (plans, strategies, programs, projects, etc.) for sustainable development and environmental protection – at regional and local, municipal level; and thirdly in undertaking of necessary institutional, organizational and other adjustments.
