Social Justice, Equality, and Justice – The Fundamental Values of a Democratic Society
CDF for Radio Belgrade I on the World Day of Social Justice
The Center for Democracy Foundation marks the World Day of Social Justice by emphasizing the importance of building a society based on equal opportunities, equality, and access to social welfare and justice for all.
Social justice must be embedded in all development programs. Eradicating poverty, achieving gender equality, ensuring equal access to education and healthcare, providing social support to vulnerable individuals and groups, guaranteeing decent work, and promoting sustainable development that preserves natural resources – these are priorities that must be set when shaping the future of our society.
Speaking on the Morning Program of Radio Belgrade I, Ivana Stojanović from the Center for Democracy Foundation highlighted the importance of dialogue on social rights and ensuring dignified work for all.
“Recent developments in the country have drawn attention to the Strike Law and the Labor Law. Over the past two weeks, we have organized public debates in Belgrade and Niš, and social partners agree that the existing legal framework does not meet current needs”, Stojanović said.
She added that the road ahead will be long and will require significant effort, as well as understanding from all sides.
She emphasized that the Center for Democracy insists on halting the fragmentation of labor legislation and adopting a new Labor Law that will serve as an overarching legal framework. Additionally, she reiterated that FCD advocates for the adoption of a Social Protection Strategy, which would ensure that all citizens of Serbia can fully and unrestrictedly exercise their right to social protection.
In a society where every individual has the opportunity for a dignified life, inequalities are reduced, and democracy is strengthened. The Center for Democracy continues its fight for more effective public policies that guarantee social security and equality as fundamental values of a democratic society.
