Vučković: Utilising Positive Energy for EU Expansion
Interview for FoNet on the anniversary of the Berlin Process
Nataša Vučković, Secretary General of the Center for Democracy Foundation, announced that hopes and expectations of the Western Balkans Six from the Berlin Process had been higher, but she believes that the results of this process over the past ten years should not be underestimated.
“I think we all hoped for and expected more from the European integration process, including the Berlin Process itself, and if there is one thing that binds these two processes, it is the increased sluggishness in comparison to our hopes and expectations,” she said for FoNet News Agency, as part of the Agreman series on foreign policy.
Vučković, who leads the Interdepartmental Working Group of the National Convent on the EU for the Berlin Process, highlighted the results of the process marking its 10th anniversary since its launch.
“Actors engaged on the EU side remain interested in the continued strengthening of regional cooperation within the Western Balkans. It is also important that the Berlin Process includes all six entities, economies, or countries, however one prefers to identify them,” Vučković remarked.
“We need to show our willingness to cooperate, as this demonstrates how we will behave one day when we become members of the EU,” Vučković conveyed.
“I believe it vital for everyone in the Western Balkans to understand that due to various circumstances, including the war in Ukraine and the prioritisation of geopolitical issues on the EU agenda, positive energy concerning expansion has been generated, and must be utilised,” emphasised Vučković.
“It is essential that we understand and perceive the Berlin Process as our own and that it serves us, the people. Media support is also crucial in this regard,” concluded Nataša Vučković.
