CDF: Improving social services in the community, with the aim of improving the quality of life of the poor
Announcement Commemorating World Day of Social Justice
To commemorate World Day of Social Justice, the Center for Democracy Foundation emphasises the difficult positions of vulnerable groups in Serbia and the need to improve social services in the local communities, to improve the lives of the poor.
Single parents, parents with two or more children, the elderly and beneficiaries of Financial Social Assistance in particular, are suffering. Our analyses indicate that Financial Social Assistance and Child Allowance both need to be increased, which was recommended by the Fiscal Council as a key measure. Furthermore, in its recommendations the European Commission has for years now mentioned the need to increase these benefits and for better targeted aid.
What’s more, it is necessary to stop with the enforcement of the Law on Social Cards due to the poor results achieved at the very start of its application. Many socially vulnerable citizens were denied their right to financial social assistance and what’s worse, this Law has resulted in the dehumanisation of social protection.
The first goal of the EU 2030 Agenda is to eradicate poverty. It is vital that we focus on achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and key principles of the 2030 Agenda - to ‘Leave No One Behind’.
Social justice, equality and fairness are the fundamental values of every society and are the basis for its development. The CDF will continue to contribute to the drafting and monitoring of public policies significant to the development of the social and economic rights of the people and the social inclusion of vulnerable groups.
