ALDA - Dedicated to democracy, peace and the European perspective of the Western Balkans
Nataša Vučković at the ALDA Board of Directors Session
From 4 to 6 March 2022, Nataša Vučković, Secretary General at the CDF, participated in the BoD session of the ALDA, the European Association for Local Democracy in Trieste (Italy).
ALDA has confirmed its dedication to democracy and the active participation of the peoples of the Western Balkans, and continues to support the integration of Balkan states into the European Union. The session highlighted the process of democratisation, stabilisation and peace for all countries and communities in the region and EU Member States. It was emphasised that the European perspective of the Western Balkans is a topic of even greater significance in times when peace is under threat in Eastern Europe.
We would like to remind our readers that the Recommendations arising from the regional conference entitled European Union and the Western Balkans – Towards Renewed Trust, organised within the Regional Youth Compact for Europe project, among other things, pointed out the importance of including the Western Balkans in the Conference on the Future of Europe. The ‘leave no one behind’ principle (LNOB) and the 2030 Agenda may be a guide for the integration process and approach used in the coming years.
Members of the BoD at ALDA emphasised the dedication of the Association in support of Ukraine and urged the EU to increase their role in ending the military invasion and initiating the peace process.
Within the framework of ALDA activities, Natasa Vučković also participated in the conference entitled Euroscepticism at the Gates of Europe, where the connection between Euroscepticism and migration, as well as the need to establish synergies with Western Balkan countries and the EU were discussed.
In Trieste, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the European Association for Local Democracy (ALDA) and the Central European Initiative (CEI).
