Empowering women in southern Serbia for entrepreneurship and climate change resilience
On 15 October 2026, the Center for Democracy Foundation organised a pilot training workshop in Kruševac entitled “Women in Agribusiness: How to Respond to the Challenges of Climate Change?”, as part of the “My Idea, My Business” project, with the aim of economically empowering women in agriculture and strengthening their capacity to respond to climate-related and business risks.
The training focused on the challenges increasingly faced by women in agriculture – droughts, high temperatures, extreme rainfall, changes in crop yields, and rising production costs.
Through interactive workshops and the exchange of experiences, participants from the Rasina District explored risks affecting their farms and businesses, as well as practical adaptation measures: improved water and soil management, more sustainable production methods, and reduced business risks.
A particularly important outcome of the training was the development of individual climate resilience plans, through which participants identified key risks, selected feasible measures, and defined initial steps towards their implementation.
Attention was also given to the specific position of women in agriculture, particularly their access to land, equipment, finance, information, and decision-making.
Through this pilot programme, we link the economic empowerment of women with climate change adaptation, contributing to the development of knowledge and practical skills needed for more sustainable business operations. Participants’ experiences also provide an important basis for identifying the needs of women in agribusiness and advocating for more accessible support measures in the local community.
Strengthening the position of women in agriculture contributes not only to the sustainability of their farms and the economic security of their families, but also to more resilient rural development in the Rasina District.
✨ The “My Idea, My Business: Project to Empower Women for Entrepreneurship and Climate Change Resilience in Southern Serbia” is implemented by the Center for Democracy Foundation with the financial support of the European Association for Local Democracy (ALDA) within the BOOST project, funded by the Agence Française de Développement (AFD).
