The Centre for Democracy Foundation, with the financial assistance of the Balkan Trust for Democracy and the Democracy Commission of the US Embassy in Belgrade , in cooperation with the Centre for Euro-Atlantic Studies , implemented the Project “The people and security – Basic elements and stakeholders in the implementation of the concept of human security (2012)” .
The aim of the project was to introduce young politicians to the concept of human security, security challenges and threats at the local level, in order to increase their capacity to face these threats efficiently.
The participants had the opportunity to learn from renown speakers what the concept of human security involves, what human security at the local level includes, what is the security policy of the Republic of Serbia and what are the current local and global security challenges. Participants discussed these and other related issues with prominent lecturers including, among others, the following: Dr. Vladimir Bilandi? (OSCE Mission), Vladimir Ateljevi? (Department of Political Science), Tanja Miš?evi? (Department of Political Science), Dušan Gamser (Center for Euro-Atlantic Studies), Zoran Vuji? (Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia), Wolf Vuksanovi? (Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Serbia), Konstantin Samofalov (National Assembly), Zarko Petrovi? (ISAC), Sanja Mešanovi? (Office of the Deputy Prime Minister of Serbia), Philip Ejdus (Belgrade Centre for Security Policy), Hristina Stevanovi? ?arapina (Ambassadors of the Environment and Sustainable Development), Dr Ksenija Petovar (a retired professor, Faculty of Architecture), Miroslav Jela?i? (Group 484), Aleksandar Kova?evi? (independent consultant), Svetlana Stanarevi? (Faculty for Security Studies, University of Belgrade)
The project was implemented in the following cities in the Niš and Pirot districts: Leskovac, Pirot, Niš and Vranje. Along with the young politicians, civil sector representatives and students also took part in the project.
